Bak full moon Poya day in the Buddhist calendar is one of the 12 Poyas observed by the Buddhists in the country. On these Poya days the Buddhists in Sri Lanka cease worldly pursuits and engage themselves in religious activities. This particular Poya day is special as it is commemorated as the day Lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka for the second time, which took place in the fifth year of his Supreme Enlightenment.
